This superb DVD brings you various footage from collieries in Northumberland and Durham coalfield. Step back in time and witness what it was like in days long gone as we visit these mines both on the surface and underground. We begin by visiting the Durham coalfield and Blaydon Burn Colliery. We go underground and witness the miners on a coal face producing coal. Next we visit Thrislington Colliery and go underground. On the coal face you can witness how they extracted the coal the old fashioned way. Everything is hard work, as we see the miners doing various jobs on the coal face. At Lambton Colliery we again venture underground and witness the haulage system and on the surface the engineworks. Dawdon Colliery is also on film and we visit the surface to witness the old steam engines. At Seaham Colliery we witness the miners walking to the coal face. At the coal face we see the longwall shearer at work and the miners working in the tailgate and maingate doing various jobs. Wetoe Colliery is on film too. We witness the miners extracting coal by way of the longwall shearer. We now move to the Northumberland coalfield and travel to Stobswood Colliery. Here we witness the miners on the haulage system, filling coal tubs, blasting the coal on the coal face and more. Ashington Colliery, once a training colliery for miners is on film. On the coal face we see the coal cutter, blasting the coal, moving the face conveyor, and more. We also have footage from the surface. Fittingly, last on film is Ellington Colliery. The last deep mine to close in Northumberland. Witness the miners as they travel to the coal face. See them extracting coal with the longwall shearer and the Joy Continuous Miner. Finally the pit ponies at work and them leaving the colliery to retire.  Total running time approximately 45 minutes
